The MP4Mentors project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ program,

aims to enrich the skills and attitudes of volunteer mentors and coordinators not only in five partner countries—Sweden, Austria, Spain, Cyprus, and Romania—but also on a global scale.

The MP4Mentors project was born out of a recognition of the pivotal role volunteering plays in youth development and social cohesion across Europe. Understanding the need to harness the potential of volunteering to empower young people and address societal challenges, our initiative was conceptualized to enhance the skills and competencies of volunteer mentors and coordinators.

  • Volunteering is viewed as an alternative to schooling, prioritizing open-ended experiences with uncertain outcomes.
  • The focus of volunteering is to create an atmosphere where young people from diverse backgrounds can interact, communicate, and exchange ideas in groups.
  • Volunteering helps young people develop self-confidence, experience success, and witness the positive results of their efforts.
  • It also enhances their ability to maintain personal and social relationships.
  • Youth volunteering promotes social inclusion, supports disadvantaged groups, and fosters social action, solidarity, and community building.
  • According to Eurobarometer, 23% of individuals aged 15 and above in the EU participate in voluntary activities.

However, across Europe, the skills and competences of volunteer mentors and coordinators are still a problem.
